Well, it certainly wasn't the start we were hoping for.
Over 60,000 filled the Moses Mabhida Stadium and despite being without the influential Michael Ballack – who is currently out with injury – The young German side made a statement with their opening game.
To rub salt in the wounds Tim was given a straight red after his 55th minute challenge on Bastian Schweinsteiger. The sending off looked harsh and Schweinsteiger himself told Tim he didn’t think it deserved a red.
The goals began with a first-half strike from Lukas Podolski and a header from Bayern Munich’s Miroslav Klose both within the first 30 minutes.
After Tim’s Dismissal, the second half saw a great strike from Mueller and Cacau made it 4.
Needless to say Tim is deeply sadden and describe the sending off as “one of the saddest moments in my football career”
The next match is on Saturday June the 19th against Ghana, who started their campaign with a 1 – 0 win over Serbia.
