FIFA World Cup 2010 TMFIFA World Cup 2010 TM

Australia 2 - 1 Serbia

Well, we’re out but we went on a high...

It was only Ghana’s superior goal difference following their defeat to Germany that saw them go throw having ended the group stage with the same points as the Socceroos.

The green and gold fans inside the Mbombela Stadium and watching all over the World saw a passionate, attacking second half performance from Australia.

Tim, back from his suspension, headed brilliantly from a right-wing cross and after the game said he was “buzzing to hit the back of the net as this time last week my World Cup looked over”.

Brett Holman hit a stunning long-range strike just 4 minutes after.

Marko Pantelic scored late on as Mark Schwarzer, who has had an excellent campaign, mishandled a long-range strike from Zoran Tosic.

Serbia failed to convert any last gasp attempts, which saw them finish at the bottom of the group. Unfortunately for the Socceroos, they did not progress past the group stages but certainly produced some great performances in the tournament.
