Australia 1 - 1 Ghana
35,000 fans attended Australia’s battle with Ghana at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
For the second time in two games, the Socceroos saw a key player dismissed to a straight red. This time is was Harry Kewell for handling on the line after 25 minutes.
The boys started well with Kewell himself having penalty appeals turned down by referee Roberto Rosetti within the first 10 minutes.
Mark Bresciano's free kick just moments later saw Richard Kinston, the Ghanaian keeper, spill the 30 yarder right back into the danger zone where Brett Holman reacted first to place the loose ball beyond the keeper’s reach.
Ghana equalised after 15 minutes from the penalty conceded by Kewell. Yet, despite being down to 10 men for over an hour, a gutsy performance with Austrailia having the majority of the possession secured their first points of the campaign.
Tim had to watch for the stands and admitted it was pretty difficult to sit there and not be able to do anything.
Thankfully Tim could return for Wednesday’s encounter with Serbia and it’s all to play for. A win and at least 3 goals could see them progress to the final 16…
