Being a footballer, it is very important to work together as a team, no matter what level you play at. It is vital to know each other’s strengths and this is something we work extremely hard on, both with Everton and the Socceroo’s. The main lesson that I have learned during my time as a pro is this: you win as a team and you lose as a team. It is vital to stick together and support each other when things are not going too well on the pitch.

I am fortunate enough to be part of a great team at Everton and David Moyes has done a great job in instilling a sense of togetherness within the squad. There is a great feel around the training ground and Goodison, right from the junior sides to the first-team.
I get on really well with all the lads at Everton which is great. We have some good banter off the field but we also all understand that there is a time when we need to knuckle down and focus on our training and match-day preparation. I get on particularly well with Bazza Baines and Phil Jagielka; they are great lads and the three of us spend lots of time together off the pitch and in the gym. Tim Howard is also a very close friend and, if you follow me on Twitter (@Tim_Cahill), you will see that I have lots of banter with the club skipper Phil Neville.
We obviously spend a great amount of time together, both on the pitch and off the pitch so it is very important to get on well with everyone. We also have to go on long trips with one another so having a good group of lads makes a massive difference!
