June 2011 Report

The inaugural Tim Cahill Coaching Clinics were an undoubted success. Hosted over 2 weekends at the start of June we had 700 children attend, eager to improve their game, meet and learn from their idol.

Each child had the unique experience of an hour with Tim on the first night of the clinics. Here the children heard tales of how Tim became a star, the hard work and sacrifices that are needed and all the different factors there are to becoming a Premiership and International soccer player. There were lessons on diet, training, healthy living as well as sneak insights into the life of a professional soccer player. Children had the chance to ask Tim anything they liked with Tim suggesting that this part was almost as hard as a media grilling!

At the weekend the children had the chance to put their skills on show on two magnificent pitches at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Following Tim Cahill and Robbie Anderson’s carefully designed program, the children spent time developing the fundamental aspects of their games. Each child was given a ball to use and keep after the clinics; the concept of this is for the ball to never leave a child’s side, improving the technical parts of their game. Both Tim and Robbie spent time with each group giving advice and joining in with exercises.

At the end of each session the children entered ‘World Cup’ competitions. This idea is to promote competition as well as putting what the children learnt into match situations. The children left for home with a certificate of their achievements, medals for world cup winners and individual prizes for players of the week, including signed Tim Cahill posters, boots and EA Sports 2011 games.
